Bush shows up at NAACP Convention

Bush finally ended his National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP) boycott. The Washington Post provides a transcript of his speech. It does not appear that Bush takes current issues impacting the lives of African-Americans seriously in this speech. Sure, he speaks of the legacy that African-Americans are still battling against, slavery and discrimination, but government needs to do more.

Bush suggests that faith base organization will be the answer, to combating the ills of discrimination, homelessness, drug dependency and unemployment in many low income communities. Using Bush's foundation analogy, churches in these community did not create these types of "Foundations", and they should not be required to attempt to repair the crack in the wall when whole new foundations need to be poured into these communities.

I believe it was the churches that gave the people the strength to endure, knowing that they were doing the right thing, when they would lose their jobs standing up against those who refused to do the right thing. More people in businesses need to do the right thing in enforcement of nondiscriminatory policies.

I agree. I am also afraid Bush's whole faith based thing is a smoke screen. He wants to fund churches that support him, and he wants to shift responsibility for health, education and welfare onto churches.

  4. I agree on the faith base support, mainly those churches that are anti-same sex anything.
