Parts of the 1965 Voting Rights Act was named after Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks and Coretta Scott King. The Voting Rights Act Reauthorization and Amendments Act passed with a vote of 390-33 according to a report by Hazel Trice Edney in the Indyrecorder.
Locally, the November 7, 2006 general and school board elections are only four months away. All voters must provide government-issued photo ID as proof of identity before casting their ballot in person. If an individual registers through the mail to vote in Indiana for the first time and does not provide the Allen County Registration Office with identification to verify residency, that voter will cast a provisional ballot, a ballot that can be challenged due to irregularities because of his or her voter registration record, if this information is not provided when voting in person.
Application for absentee voting by mail must be in the Allen County Election Board Office, 602 South Calhoun Street room 119 by midnight October 30, 2006.
