The United State’s Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice cease fire diplomatic talk with Lebanon was mocked by Shimon Peres, Deputy Prime Minister of Israel. Israel's bombing of Beirut after her visit to Jerusalem was embarrassing. It appeared as Israel’s bombing of Beirut sent a message to Lebanon that the United States does not speak for Israel in this conflict. In other words, if the United States could justified its actions in fighting the war on terror in Iraq, Israel bombing of Lebanon to the international community against terrorist aggression could not be viewed as a war crime.
Peres of Israel gave as good as the United States in defending its action for bombing civilians. Peres explained on the Sunday morning show that collateral damage occurs when fighting a war on terrorists. He suggested that Hezbollah, is not just its leader, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, but is everywhere, hiding in civilian homes, hiding behind the United Nations, and protected by Syria and Iran.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Peres suggested that if Lebanon's Prime Minister, Fuad Saniora wants a cease fire than let the Lebanese 80,000 soldiers disarm the 3,000 to 6,000 Hezbollah supporters as a show of good faith. The argument for such massive bombing targeting Hezbollah stronghold on Lebanon sounded much like a repeat of President George W. Bush going after Saddam supporters. Israel wants Hezbollah at any cost as it ignored Condelezza Rice.
