Fort Wayne-Allen County New Government

I do not know if it would have been called Fort Wayne-Allen County, or Allen County-Fort Wayne or something else, but the process for creating the new government starts all over. Fort Wayne City Council and Allen County Commissioners do not agree on exactly how to study the restructuring of what some called "the outdated, outmoded" current governmental structure.

The first time elected officials handled restructuring under H.B. 1362 can be labeled a stalemate or how about failure. The city council suggests it moved for a "visionary" restructuring of government with their proposal. However, some how Allen County Commissioners missed the "bold" steps that city-council tried so hard to sell for change.

And Allen County County Commissioners were undaunted by the signatures at the bottom of the proposal in rejecting the proposal by the city. Instead, the Commissioners took the issue of restructuring to the "masses". After listening and listening, the Commissioners returned with a proposal that gutted H.B. 1362 back to an informal "intergovernmental agreements". This was not what City Council envisioned from it peer leaders.

Nevertheless, unwilling to settle, the dejected city council decided to just "stew" for the moment. If only for a moment because city council members believe, they are elected to lead the people. Unlike Allen County Commissioners who cowed to the timid and fearful voters with opposing views who are content with "kicking cans" down a road. Words can be harsh when it comes to elected officials describing their constituents.

Maybe Allen County Commissioners did not understand, part of their responsibility was the driving force behind big and bold ideas for change. And that means having to some times shove an idea down the throats of the few or many who fail to buy into the program. This is necessary for change to occur. So after the stewing session, City Council will craft a new proposal, probably again and again until Allen County Commissioners gets it. The it being that government is by the few and not the whim of the "masses".

At least that's how I understand what the big boys was selling to the listening audience at the city council meeting.
