Street
The street has claimed another young African-American male. Curtis White, Jr. (AKA)JR was shot in the head. The street got him on December 17, 2006 a little after 2:00 a.m. White held on to life as he made it to a Fire Station to be rushed to the hospital. Surgery was performed on White who was placed on life support. On Monday, December 18, 2006 at 7:11 p.m. White was pronounced dead.
The street is cold. It did not care whether White made it home..to his family. The street didn't care. White became the 18th victim of a homicide. The street took his life and just gives him a number.
Almost every day I walk these streets. And folks appears to be growing more and more indifferent. A brother does not mind cussing you out. And a sister does not mind giving as much gruff back as she is getting from the street.
Every bodies and any bodies wants to be hard..not..just chickens or bullies, that's all.
Call the police? The streets is dumping ground created for what they label as riff-raff, vagabonds or confidential informants/snitches. The police ain't family, they don't care that you have a soul, if you make it home..or if you're alright after you made it home.
It's time to measure up. Put your weapons away and man up. Recognize you have a soul.
The shooter is still in the street.
How come..the gas station was full..
How come?
Don't tell me nothing about snitching !!
Snitching is for criminal..telling is measuring up or being a man.
Stop being street..and learn the measure of a man.

Personally I WISH people were "only" indifferent...I find them ALL a lot more ARROGANT....arrogant in their OWN opinions of themselves and disdain for others (often as misplaced as a TV remote), as well as how much "street-cred" they can bolster (by whatever substance that can be inhaled, injected, or poured from a bottle or can into their bodies).
ReplyDeleteSadly, more and more guns are being used, and while that alone is horrendous (and NOT a gun issue, but a PEOPLE issue), the fact that these men (and some women) can't even be man or woman enough to talk it out or walk away speaks volumes about their own self-esteem.
Even being a Christian, you DO have only so many cheeks you can turn, but this increased violent behavior should not be tolerated or endured.
And yes, the police are NOT "family" (per se), as they are there to enforce the LAW, and not hold everyone's hand.
But portions of the community in general have taken it upon themselves to distance themselves further FROM the police, acting as their OWN brand of street-justice as it were. Much of this is indoctrinated into children at a very young age...(don't trust the po-po...he's gonna lock you up). That is simply NOT the right way to rear a child and teach them anything about authority.
These street thugs intimidate witnesses, threaten homeowners, accost the elderly. And that's only the tip of the iceberg. Mr. White's death is but another way of "maintaining" the power they feel they deserve. And it costs lives...too many lives.
But ANY community cannot fight what it is NOT united against. Therein lies the solution.
When EVERYONE gets their collective butts on the SAME PAGE (societally-speaking)..then, and ONLY then will change occur. In the meantime, it's going to be "business as usual", unfortunately.
