North Side High School Seniors were geeked up for Spirit Pride Day. Senior names would be called out along with their accomplishment throughout their high school career. The students would stand to be recognized by their fellow students. Those who were not yet seniors would look forward to the year they would be seniors and receive their recognition could only watch this year seniors' celebrate.
Except, for one sophomore, Ashley Christopher. Christopher would hear her name called out. Christopher was not a senior, but she was being recognized on Spirit Pride Day for her attendance. But attending school was not all Christopher did, she was engaged, she already had a 3.0 average. And she received something during the recognition that may inspire her to continue being engaged in school. Christopher was presented with a 1997 white Grand AM GT, with sunroof and power windows.
What a surprise for Christopher. Christopher only had her permit. And on Spirit Pride Day, she had become the owner of a car. A car that Christopher could at least sit in and turn on the radio and think about all the places she could go, if she couldn't drive for now. To her grandmother's house was one place the young redhair thought about out loud. A car just in time for her July 2007 17th birthday, in time for her to have her driving license.
Chuck and Jim Kelly of Kelly Chevrolet has set a precedent, who knows whats in store for next year North Side Pride Day.
Maybe, I am not thinking right, but I'm thinking the cost of the car could be a year of college tuition or enough to complete a certificate or associates degree program.
