Union Recognition for the Allen County Jail and the Allen County Highway Department

Represesentatives of IBEW were in town today to request the Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen to recognize IBEW Local 723 as the exclusive bargaining agent for hourly employees.

A letter was presented to the Commissioners this morning by Bruce Getts, Business Manager who represents IBEW Local 723 throughout Indiana including Verizon workers. Also present at the meeting was David L. Schimmel, International Lead Organizer membership Devlopment and C.J. King, Regional Organizing Coordinator membership Development.

In spite of the fact that many employees may feel their jobs may be threaten my joining a union approximately 70% of the hourly employees of the highway department and around 60% of the hourly employees of the jail have signed cards for the purpose of collective bargaining impacting the conditions of their employment in areas such as wages, hours, and benefits.

The committee of Allen County Employee Association President Mike Mills and Board Member Olden Ray are members of group consisting of over 300 members.

Getts suggests that the recent comment by Commission Nelson Peters in the reduction of highway workers will not impact service may not be exact. Getts suggests that private contractors may be hired to replace the displaced workers.

  1. why not privatize the jail, Wackenhut, or get the same union as the DOC?
And what of the prison gang/race war problems at the state prisons?

Its bad enough that these hard working, corrections workers, whether @ DOC's or county jails have to deal with the scum of the earth on a daily basis- this is one dirty job that they deserve to be paid commensurate with the dirtballs they keep us safe from.
In addition, also keeping the non-violent screwups safe from the career criminal gangs.
Getting caught up in the DOC system , for minor misdemeanors by the criminally injustice system is a nightmare for your average citizen. Confinement, and isolation from the rest of society, for the purpose of rehabilitation is suppposed to be the constitutional standard for incarceration.
however nowadays, your life is endagered everyday due to criminal prison gangs preventing average citizen screwups from just marking their time, and serving their sentences; due to these professional organized racist criminal prison gangs.

anyway- unionize, or privatize the jail; DOC system, so they are seamlessly interoperable.
