The Allen County Property Tax Appeal Board

This is an interesting group of people. I suggest you go and sit in on an appeal of local property tax. I went before the board yesterday. I had went before the board in 2003, the first year I returned to the city. So, from my first experience, I knew what to expect from the group. This time was somewhat better. Mr Thistlewaite, appeared to know what is required and asked the right questions. The assessor officials of course do not want to be proven wrong, so they will lie through their teeth. Sorry, but it's a fact.

Remember, these are some of the same officials who were changing figures on their own property record card before the election !!! Oh you forgot, and for those of you who want to pretend that this year property assessment is the fault of last year administration, let me remind you both Bev Zuber and Stacey O'Day worked in the assessors office before taking on their leadership position. Forgot that too, huh?!

After explaining my neighborhood and connecting neighborhoods experienced little home sales, it was no surprise that the Board was blown away with the assessment of this home only 6 blocks away, but valued at $161,000.00. More proof that it is a hit and miss tactic that is used by those who are cooking the number in the assessors offices in Allen County.
