Fort Wayne Children's Summer Chess Tournament
The Fort Wayne Children's Summer Chess Tournament was held Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Allen County Public Library Main Library Downtown. Children were invited to participate from preschool through those entering the fifth grade.
Children were rated starting with beginners, intermediate to advanced. All players who were United States Chess Federation rated players were required to play in the Advanced division. Those players who are rated travel and play in various chess tourney for rating and not just for fun. Jeremey Brune played a third round that seemed to go on and on....
Children in the Fort Wayne's Just for Fun tournament played five rounds with the winner receiving trophies and all players received a participation award. Alex Gaskill of Cedar Canyon won three out of five of his games. Girls played against boys, Lois Mamani won 2-3 of her chess games. Some children learned to play chess at their schools. Canterbury, Towles and Bunche were represented at the tourney. Kyaw T. Soe was the founder of the games at both Towles and Bunche, whom son Marco won with a perfect score.

Allen County Public Library has an all ages chess club that meets on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. during the months of July and August.
