The last day for the Property Tax Appeal is September 4, 2007

I talked to an engineer today who stated his property was improperly assessed. He purchased his home last year in September. He drew a picture of his home and asked the assessor to change his assessed value.

I told him he needed to appeal the assessment, he stated there was no need to appeal because he paid his bill and gave the assessor a drawing of his house. This was an engineer. The poor guy does not understand that any changes to his assessed value must go before the appeal board and the deadline for appealing is September 4, 2007.

I asked him did he fill out an appeal form, he stated no and we went our merry way..you can lead a horse to water but you can not make him drink.

Fort Wayne taxpayers should be pretty thirsty come August 17, 2007. Watch the video.

I found your post both funny and sad...funny because it is my experience that most engineers (especially males) think they know EVERYTHING, which therefore (they think)exempts them from EVER doing the following: reading instructions, newspapers, and guidelines, and the (oh-so odious) following advice from others. I can say this because I am an engineer - been one for over 15 years now... working for the automotive industry. I've been exposed to this trend for exactly that long :-).

It's sad because for the same reasons, we will continue to be held back from progress against high taxes, fraud, and many social ills, not the least of which is job loss. When a large segment of your population is close-minded to instruction from any source (written or in your case written and verbal), society trips along. Hopefully the efforts of the rest of us can mask the ignorance that's out there!
