Century of Civil Rights 1909-2009
In honor of Black History Month, the NAACP Communications Department encourages you to tune in to HBO Sports' special film....
[Joe Louis] was the grandson of slaves who became one of the greatest boxers in history. Legendary heavyweight Joe Louis, the "Bronx Bomber," was America's first true cross-over athlete. This special film chronicles his life, shows his far-reaching impact on segregated America and popularity with both black and white fans, and reveals how even though he served as an iconic figure in WWII, the government and IRS betrayed him and drove him into a desperate state at the end of his boxing career and life. Interviews include his son, Joe Barrow Jr., Jimmy Carter, Maya Angelou, Jerry Lewis, Pete and Louis Marciano, and others. For more information, please visit:
