I will admit, I did what some others may have done. I went, oh lord, they (the NAACP done went and appointed a white man!!! At first blush, but I thought, just maybe this was not a black man.
This was an Obama man, meaning this was an individual whom claimed blackness with parents with different skin color. At that little hiccup, I wanted to know more about the man. I was glad to see a comment in the post on my site, from Mr. Jealous that provided the information that I needed.
After reading that Mr. Jealous was president of a foundation. I thought conflict of interest and wondered silently if he would step down. I got that answer this afternoon from reading SFGATE o
In September, Benjamin Todd Jealous will leave his post as president of the Rosenberg Foundation, a social justice grant-making organization. At 35, he is the youngest national leader in the 99-year history of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
However, another candidate from Dallas, Rev. Frederick D. Haynes III was reported to have been rejected by the NAACP board because he did not leave his post. According to the Dallas News:
The Rev. Frederick D. Haynes III said Sunday that he lost a chance to be NAACP president and chief executive because he would not leave the Dallas megachurch he has led for the last 25 years.
or could it have been because the Rev. was an Obama Man too? But a different type of Obama man. In the sense that the Rev. Haynes was linked to the infamous Rev. Jeremiah Wright. According to the article,
Dr. Haynes is a protégé of Barack Obama's controversial ex-pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. But he said he didn't think that was a factor in the NAACP's decision.
In the world of who you know could and can sometimes hurt you.
