East Allen County continues to fail it students

East Allen County School M. Kay Novotny, Ed.D.Superintendent of Schools attempted to sweep under the rug a racial incident that occurred at one of its high school. When Superintendent Novotny was confronted about this incident, she informed the NAACP President that she had her own personalities to handled the situation.

In other words, Superintendent had various African-American males working for the East Allen County School. Many of these African-Americans males did not have a degree in Education. Some served as ministers, on the school board, the urban league and coaches. These individuals were to silence any outspoken African-Americans who demanded a safe learning environment for their students.

At the end of the day, the Superintendent hired an African-American to oversee a study circle atmosphere. That was the Superintendent strategic plan. Well with the release ISTEP score by the Indiana Department of Education ISTEP ranking, it appears that Superintendent need more than a study circle. And some need to rethink that a male presence guarantee student success.

The average ranking for the state in English is a low 66 for 10 th graders but even lower is Paul Harding Notovny (personality setting), where a large number of African-American students attend ranked at 37%. The state average for math is 65 % and Harding is 39 %. This means, these students did not hit the 50% mark.

The remedy for this is a reading by males club. Sigh. Reading is different from understanding the English language.

Now let's take a look at the ranking for the incoming 9th graders at Paul Harding. The State average ranking in English is 67 and the average for Harding is 36%. The state average is 70% and Harding is 40%. So you can see that the students lose points as they move to the next grade.

No surprise there, because if students do not learn these new math skills they will not be able to keep up. Let's see, African-American parents are still waiting for the leaders to help their children?!

You better help yourself and get somebody who cares about African-American students.
