Politics is Local--Fort Wayne in Allen County Election 2010

Tea baggers, heap baggers whatever you call them, are aiming to have an impact on who gets elected. So, I am not too surprised to see so many candidates on the election ticket for my fair city. Unemployment is the major factor in getting these tea baggers all steamed up. Another reason is because the voters went an elected an African-American President of these United States !! So, something tells me a little of this is being played out in Allen County.

These folks know that pulling the lever is not enough, you got to get in there(elected)to win it to truly get your voice heard on behalf of the little people( your special interest). Yep, a small cluste of folks working in agreement on keeping the resources in their neighborhoods. You probably heard it called something else..POLITICS. Why you think Al Sharpton (not local) is late to the party in taking a liking to President Barack Obama? Sharpton knows, his voice will not be heard badmouthing the brotha,( President Obama). So, Sharpton is playing the system and protraying himself (unlike Tavis Smiley) as President Obama's ally. So,it is with some of Allen County 2010 election candidates. Smiley and Sharpton were on the same team until Sharpton switched on Tavis.

Some of these folks are straight up playing the system. But, that's politics. The next time, some folks will have to stand up and be counted, by getting on that ballot and making a difference. And guess what some folks have done just that, (the non elite self selected by the party) :

Phil Marx is on the ticket, good for him. Marx and I have had some interesting conversation. I met Marx when he ran against Mark Souder as a Republican some years ago. Now, he is running against Stevenson as a Democrat for Wayne Township Trustee. This is a no-brainer. Either Marx is running to get some digs in at Stevenson or he couldn't run as Republican. I am just saying, no way can he beat Stevenson on the Democratic ticket. Unless, the Republicans are going to vote Democratic to oust Stevenson. This will be interesting.

Nina Gaines Newson.

Gaines ran in 2006 for Adams Township Assessor, and I still believe she won the race back than. So here she is four years later running for a board membership, no doubt she will win hands down. Gaines-Newson is gutsy and young, I would have loved to see her on the ballot for Assessor. But she may know something that I am no aware of about the position.

Maye Johnson

Johnson has served her time. Whomever has placed their name on the ballot will win this hands down. I don't care how many political allies you have but when you are working for grass root folks, you ought to do something for the people.

Rick Stevenson

Stevenson will win his reelection bid. Stevenson has earned his votes from the people. Stevenson has truly driven Wayne Township in the right direction. Meaning, it is a place in which those who are hurting should be able to go and find away back home. Sure, Stevenson could do more, but with the prior years of neglect, Stevenson was behind a learning curve and a bad budget.

Now for my disclaimer, I am neither a democrat or republican. However, the party system tends to suppose the two party system, so you are stuck with declaring a party affilation. The system is designed this way to maintain control by the minority, so few real folks can get on the ballot.

Do what you have to do, but at least click on Election 2010- Allen County to learn more about those candidates who will have an impact on your community, and you and your children future.

  1. Perhaps you can clarify something for me. According to Gaines-Newson's campaign web-site, she is running for Adams Township Assessor. But according to the Allen County Election Board, no such elected position exists. They have her listed as running for Adams Township Board Member.

There is nothing on her web-site that indicates the year it was created. Was this actually from her 2006 run that you mentioned? Was this position eliminated since then? Do you know if she has a web-site for her current campaign?

I've heard that knowledge is power, so I am trying to become more powerful by relying on your knowledge in this matter.

  2. Checking with the Allen County Election Board, Mrs. Gaines-Newson is running for the Adams Township Board Member. All Assessors positions were eliminated except for Wayne Township Assessor Office.

So, this could explain why Gaines-Newson will not be repeating her 2006 for assessor. The other choice for Gaines-Newson would have been to run against the her boss, Republican contender Stacey O'Day.

It is unbelieveable that the Democrats had no running for the position. The fact that Gaines-Newson old website is still up could help her in the election for township board member.

I hope this helped with your understanding.

    Fate attenzione, Phil

  4. I told my daughter about you last night..too funny. Anyways, Ciao.

I believe the turn out for the election will be low. I don't know if you and Stevenson have debated or not, but if not, you will receive less than seventeen percent. Had you gone Republican you would have probably won.

Yes, I am enjoying a culture that is older than America. My plans is to return by the end of May. But, that could change, but believe you me I will be paying attention to the election.

    Take care
