Dr. Belinda Carver Taylor: A Dentist carrying The Legacy of Deamonte Driver
In February 2007, 12-year old Deamonte Driver died from a brain infection caused by untreated tooth decay. He was a student at the Foundation School in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Devastated by the news, members of the Robert T. Freeman Dental Society (RFTDS) (a local chapter of the National Dental Association) residing in Prince George’s County and neighboring Washington, DC, launched a crusade to prevent this tragedy from ever happening again.
Drs. Belinda Carver-Taylor and Hazel Harpers led the effort to form a grassroots community coalition involving all aspects of the community Founded by Robert T. Freeman Dental Society members Drs. Hazel Harper and Belinda Carver-Taylor. The Deamonte Driver Dental Project was launched in 2008 to ensure that no child in Prince George’s County would lack access to needed dental services.
