Who Lost Egypt?

Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy asks the question who lost Egypt? The question is directed to the United States President in power during the election of Mohammed Mursi as Eygpt's president. Other Presidents have been blamed for a reversal of countries leaderships argues Gaffney, such as "..Harry Truman was charged with having “lost China” following the take-over of the Chinese mainland by Mao Tse-Tung’s communists. In subsequent years similar formulations were used to challenge those responsible for the loss to the Free World of Vietnam, Iran and post-Soviet Russia." Bret Stephens of the Wall Street Journal blames the Egyptians for the loss but still points a finger as President Obama as a catalyst. Stephens argues that President Obama helped Egyptians protestors usher in the Arab Springs making way for a possible Islamic Winter for the people. Mursi is painted as an extremist who is walking the walk but not talking the talk of a more moderate Muslim leader. Dick Morris of NewsMax argues that President Obama must do something and tighten the relationship with the military might so as not to fall the way of Jimmy Carter. Morris, writes, "[t]he Obama administration, in failing to throw its weight against an Islamic takeover, is guilty of the same mistake that led former President Jimmy Carter to fail to support the shah, opening the door for the Ayatollah Khomeini to take over Iran. Who lost Egypt to the Muslim Brotherhood of Iran can't possible be determined since Mursi was only elected to office June 30, 2012. But what will happen between the new leadership and the United States security forces will be worth watching.
