The City-County Consolidation issue has taken a turn, instead of modeling the expediecy marshaled by city council persons, Dr. John Crawford and Sam Talarico. Allen County government has decided to form a study group and focus on department mergers. This makes sense, because it's about efficiency making for a more competent government.
It's also about croynism and neotism. The merger of departments will allow family members and friends to be challenged by more competent employees with a merger of departments. Who will end up with the job, only time will tell.
But, county has another way of getting there money without the new founding fathers mentality of creating a whole new system, home rule. Governor Mitch Daniel will allow for local government to determine how much property tax can be collected without state oversight. Home rule among crooks is not a good for tax payers.
However, first things first, the proposal is to go back to city council and they have to come up with the same proposal? Will they agree with county government and where is the public hearing on the new proposal?
