Ride Brake Swirl-Indiana Summer Celebration

I spent the weekend in Indy for the Black Expo. Yes, there were young folks all over the place. Yes, I heard a few young folks used profanity. But, the sheer number of people attending the various events, it was minimum. I heard more excuse me than I heard curse words.

I did learn about ride brake and swirl from the young folks. The fancy cars with rims and upward swinging doors were an eye-popper for me. The amount of money spent on a paint job for some of these young cats' vehicles was mindboggling. Just seeing so many luxury cars driven by folks who looked like me, in one place was an ooh and aah moment for me.

Now fashion, come on people, you know when it comes to sistas, they are going to push it to the limit. And some of the sistas did just that in their wardrobe choices for the events. I was either wishing, I could have worn the outfit, or was giving the sista a high five, for being brave enough to leave the house in their wardrobe malfunctions. I saw nothing that was not seen at least once on regular television. As for the sagging pants by the brothas, I saw only two, and one of those was by a male headliner. I was impressed by the brothas and their attire. It could have been I was not on outfit patrol, monitoring everyone clothing for the day. I was focused on the entertainers, but old school male tend to set the bar in styling for an event.

I might have missed alot of negative because I was busy getting autographs or pictures. Yes, I like to shake hands with folks, who I am giving my money. I did get a few, and I was a happy camper. The performers were outstanding, Mary J. was awesome, Charlie Wilson, En Vogue...these folks are performers...they gave to the audience and gave and gave some more...Mary and Charlie were my favorite, when my main purpose for going was for another performer. I did get that performer's autograph, yes I did!!! I even got a hug from Flavor Flav!??!

In closing, yes there were a lot of young folks on the street. But, I remember my uncles and aunts allowed me to hang out late at night with them because they were of age. I was protected, and did not have sneak off on my own. I believed some of these young folks were out with their siblings. As well as some who appeared illegal but were legal. Of course, you are going to have the ones that's looking for trouble.

I read several blogs that spoke of the negative, I wonder how many events were supported by these naysayers. I remember the year of the bad treatment by police officers, but this year, they were professionals, not hardnosed, but direct with maintaining control over folks who just wanted to continue the party long after it was over. I believe that made a good impression on Indy's visitors, and who will probably bring their friends for the next Black Expo.

I would suggest the naysayers plan a vacation for next year during Black Expo, to get out of town to avoid seeing all these folks having a good time. You know the naysayers I'm talking about, the ones that can do the shoulder lean but can't dance..
