Lily Ledbetter makes it possible for President Barack Obama's daughters, Sasha and Malia to receive the same pay as their male counterpart. President Obama signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. to give women the right to sue for pay disparity. The bill also removes the 180 days statute of limitation for filing discrimination cases.
Ledbetter did not discover until later in life the fact that her male coworkers were making more for the same work. Many women have heard the tired, " a male has a family to take care of" excuse for this illegal justification for this inequality.
President Obama does this on the back of raced white women. Seattlepi.com writes, "The Civil Rights Act of 1964, also applies to discrimination based on factors such as race, religion, national origin, disability or age." Raced white women make 78 % of raced white males. However, African-American women make less than raced white women. By signing this colorblind bill, African-American women will be lifted to the same level as raced white women as well as men.
