Sir Gaffney-Freedom Rider in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

Theodore Gaffney is living history. I was fortunate enough to meet SirGaffney (the one holding the poster and camera) the name he goes by as he shared his experience with me about the freedom riders.

It seems SirGaffney , who was a photographer for Jet Magazine, and some of his friends, Simeon Booker and Moses Newson and others on May 15, 1961, were stuck in Birmingham at a Greyhound Station. The bus driver refused to provide accommodations for the group. The Supreme Court had outlawed the segregating of all interstate public accommodations.
