Volunteering overload- The Presidential Inaugural committee
Too many volunteers, showed up to give out tickets and credentials, yesterday. The first day was slow, so some volunteers were not needed. Some volunteers protested to the Presidential Inaugural Committee 2009 (PIC2009), about signing up specifically signing up for the media event. These protesters did not want to just hook up the red velvet ropes.
I was one of the ones that found themselves not needed. It was suggested that I come back for the evening shift. I declined. However, I did exchange buttons with Joe. Joe liked the green ASCME button I was sporting. Joe was not happy with the organizing skills of the PIC2009. Joe attended the hot mess on Saturday and was going to be on the National Mall. Now it seems he would be in some hotel passing out keys to guests.
Not a bad jig with the temperature dropping.
I did make it to the media room. Nice setup. The computer, the blue curtain. The computer is for giving your name, organization or whatever. Behind the curtain is the ticket packet. I heard some of those tickets were going as high as $3,0000 .
How is that possible? I was not credentialed for the media room, so I got booted, while the earlier protested stood watching the event instead of participating in the event. By 12,:00 noon, a few of us decided to just leave the Convention Center. The roped off area was in place now and in the next few days, those dreaded 1800 new organizations folks will have to follow the red velvet loops to get their ticket packet.
But Joe's not returning, it's not like the fine tuned Obama's campaign. Joe signed up for five days, I only signed up for one. I am sure the last day will be a nightmare, maybe I'll just show up.
Note: volunteers are not to blog. However, I don't believe there is any love for any type of media from the committee members.
