Indiana could always grab national headlines, by claiming a possible Evan Bayh for President of the United States of America. Bayh was Indiana's career politician believed destined to occupy the White House. At least that was the dream sold to Hoosier political campaign donors, especially after Huntington very own Dan Quayle captured the title of U.S. Vice-President.
Bayh's appeal for the high office drew millions of dollars. Dollars that would support his continued run for re-election. Until the popularity of an African-American Democrat, Barack Obama, cut Bayh's run short. It became clear that the million dollar war chest of Bayh was not enough against the newcomer. Obama began the change maker who took the Democrats in his first attempt straight to the White House.
Bayh unable to compete against Obama, decided to retire from politics. Bayh, the Indiana homeboy campaigner existing the political arena, would leave a void in Indiana fundraising. Unless, they could find someone in Indiana who was political connected to the White House. So,Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels will fill in as the new poster boy for Indiana Presidential hopeful in 2012. The political game is not about winning the Presiential seat, it is more about fundraising opportunities for both parties. It does not matter that Governor Daniels is too short to win. Indiana needs to raise money to support local candidates. So, Daniels does not have a prayer in winning the Republican nomination for President. But as long as he stays in the news both parties can collect dollars from the those who want to believe in the dream, that an Indiana Governor can take the White House.
