When you thought you heard it all..

If you can't increase the property taxes on homeowners, just double bill them. Allen Treasurer Robert Lee, (don't know if he is kin to General Robert E. Lee), blames a computer glitch on tax bills that went out to homeowners who pay property tax through their mortgage payment.

I smell a rat.

"In the worst-case scenario, if people pay bills they didn’t have to, that money would be applied to the fall tax bills, or they can request a refund of the overpayment." from the article.

It seems that the money strapped City of Fort Wayne and Allen County are desperate. A similar computer glitch scheme caused the Treasurer to enjoy a windfall at the expense of nervous homeowners in the African-American community. There gerrymandered a certain targeted area in Wayne Township. Once a thief gets away with a crime, the thief will try it again. And so explains the new computer glitch.

What say you?

  1. A few years ago I received notice that I had overpaid my property taxes and was due a refund. This error was caused by them, not by me. In their letter, they gave a very detailed explanation. First, it showed how much I had paid for taxes during the past two years. Then, it showed what payment I had actually made each of these four times. They tallied the overpayments and gave me a grand total at the end.

When I tried to claim this refund, I was told that I needed to give proof that I had actually made these payments. Even though they had all of this information on file, and it was all neatly listed on the letter which they had compiled themselves, I still needed to waste the time and money to photocopy my checks to prove payment had been made.

I questioned the reasons for this ridiculous beuracratic hurdle and was told that they needed to make sure I was the one who had made these payments before they could issue a refund.

Never the one to take the easy road, I decided to play the devil's advocate. I asked them what if someone else had paid my taxes during that time. As the owner of the property, shouldn't the refund go to me regardless of this? They just repeated the need for the photocopied checks.

I asked what if I had paid cash, and no longer had the receipt. They restated the requirement that I prove that I had made payment, adding that they were just following State law.

Finally, I asked that the overpayment amount simply be credited to my next tax bill. I was told that this would not happen. If I did not file a proper claim proving I had made these payments, the refund would be lost.

I had the checks and I showed them to get my refund. But what about someone that wasn't able to do so. The County over charged them for two years, then simply keeps the money.

This is just one more example of why I think most people in government (beuracrats and elected officials) are assholes.

And Credo, it's nice to see that you allow anonymous morons to comment here. It gives us something to laugh at.

    Thank you for your comment.

Asshole what a charming word, let's see, dick with no balls would be my way of describing the crooks in city hall. but that would be a little crass for someone who does not like the use of sexaul innuendos to attack a person's character flaws. Just calling them criminals should do the trick.

And I want to thank you for confirming the tactic I accused the Auditor's office and Allen County Treasurer, via LIzzy and Bobbie, (AKA Liz Blosser and Robert Lee). It is what it is. If I offend family members or friends, by calling a spade a spade, oh well.

I suggest they turn these crooks in and get some type of whistle blower reward.

You are so right,Phil, concerning the procedure for getting your overpayment back being such a farce. But it works and whom fault is it? These crooks blame..the STATE. Yeah right.

These crooks are gleeful when folks say okay, I don't have a receipt or I did not keep proof of my payment. Do these idiots give the money back just on general principle, when they see that's there has been an overpayment on a person account.

    Hell no..

If a payment has been made on your account by mistake or intentional, the money belongs to you not the Allen County Treasurer. But these slick bit..es think they are slick. oop, I did it again

Phil. I am glad you spelled it out for my friends especially too my anonymous friends.

Phil, my anonymous friends go anonymous because they can not handle the truth. Phil I know you are new to blogging, but I learned early on that there is a glee club of bloggers, who are friends and support each other in the attack on certain bloggers they do not like.

And if they can't control you or how you blog, you are a target, because you just might call them out, and I have.

I know they are reading my blog and readership is what my blog is about. At first I took the attacks personally, even thinking about not blogging. But, hell reading there stuff my community needs me to share some light on the Fort. LOL

I have since eyeballed many of these bloggers. In essence, just my opinion, most have issues that they need to deal with and need to leave me the hell alone. Having said that, a cheapshot by them let's me know they are mad as hell, that I am still blogging and that I have the nerves to talk about their friends and family members.

I will try and get you on my pageflake soon. Take care
