Attention Black Shoppers in WalMart

At the Wal-Mart Supercenter Store in Turnersville, New Jersey, the announcer came on the sound system not to announce a blue light special but to tell "All" black folks to leave the store. I was not there, it was reported on various blogs. I read about the story here.

"'All blacks need to leave the store," the voice announced.'"

So, I'm thinking, did the person behind the voice, read about a report published by The Insight Center for Community Economic Development is called, Lifting as we Climb: Women of Color, Wealth, and America’s Future on the net worth of black women ?? Field Negro blog brought the report to my attention. The data is distrubing to us as women especially those with children to read that over 50% of single black women net worth (assets substracting debt) was in the median range from $0- $100.

It was $5 for some and a $100 for some others, but not all, just some.

The net worth after their debt is subtracted from the total value of their assets appears to be the problem. Some of these women are consumers rather than wealth builders.

Single women are being shortchanged, nearly half have negative wealth, according to the report. Young women between the ages of 18-35 have zero wealth, not just African-American women.

It is shocking to know, that while some African American women median net worth is $100, raced white women net worth comparison equal over $41,000 by the time they reach the age group ages 36-49.

But could this report have given a male employee the nerves to order some shopping sistas out of WalMART??

Or was it too many Sunday church folks too close to closing time?

It was busy shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday at the Turnersville, New Jersey, Wal-Mart Supercenter.

I don't know, because I was not there, and I'm just wondering what would I have done, if I heard the call. In your mind's eye you attempt to rationalize racialist behavior displayed by others. I have to bring down my level of assertive behavior within a manageable range. You do it to make sense of your right to be in place that is not totally acceptance of your presence.

But right now, I am shaking my head. "SMH" because I had earlier blogged about a disturbing incident of blatant racialist behavior in my hometown. A sign was used to tell a group of folks, you are not welcomed.

Now, this is my question, in each one of these establishments, can you tell me how many African-Americans or Burmeses work in management in their respective city? Now, we know folks are going to say Wal-Mart support diversity. But at the grassroot level where they place their stores, does the community as a whole believe in diversity?

Come on people, tell me something, give me something to work with!!!

So, what do we do when these incidents of racialist behavior occur? The local NAACP must have been on vacation, you think ? Well, here is a few suggestions, until the NAACP holds its press conference. Let's hold a job fair right in front of the businesses. Or we could hold an art exhibit in front of these businesses and use removable chalks to scribble the words about incidents of racialism exhibited at these businesses in various beautiful colors. Large drawings. Or we get about five gospel choir to sing some protest sounds continually for five hours, with a song like, I ain't gonna to let nobody turn me round.

I know you what to do something how could you not want to do something unless you are the President of the local NAACP. I aint gonna let nobody turn me round, sing with me now, I ain't gonna let nobody turn me round turn me round. turn me round..
