Andre' Bobb's Future- Will be

Luretha Bobb reads a letter about her son, Andre' Bobb and becomes overwhelmed. Ms. Bobb had some real concerns for her 16 years old son, Andre' Bobb's and his well being. The letter was brief, three paragraphs, concise and to the point. Nevertheless, the words on the paper brought tears to Ms. Bobb's eyes. After all the letter was about her son.

The letter's message contained an affirmation about the very path Andre had chosen for himself. Of course Ms. Bobb had made certain that Andre was exposed to a strong belief system. Faith would be essential for him, as well as sustain him throughout his life, this his mother knew. Especially, since Andre was so young but still he was clothed in a certain mystic of maturity. His academic achievement attested to that fact.

Earlier, Andre made her a proud parent, not just as a mother, but as a student. Andre maintained excellent grades in school. Matter of fact, Ms Bobb had attended Andre's school, Cornerstone Christian College Preparatory Day and High School, annual honors ball. Every year Cornerstone honored the students who maintained honor grades. And, if that wasn't enough Andre was selected as valedictorian of his graduating class. What more could a parent ask for?

It seems Andre' still had plans.

Andre's plans would take him from the safe nurturing environment of his hometown, Fort Wayne and place him into the big City of Chicago, Illinois. Chicago is just not the same as a City like Fort Wayne where everyone knows your name. And Ms. Bobb understood the temptations that awaited a young impressionable teen in the big city. But, Andre had made the decision that could impact the rest of his life.

Was it the right decision? Fears, she had probably not addressed herself, were alleviated as Ms. Bobb read the letter.

You see, Andre had chosen DePaul University to continue his studies. A private university with over 23,000 students. Andre immersed himself in positive organizations within the college community. He is a member of the DePaul University Gospel Choir. He joined the Black Student Union. Choices that some would say, was Andre's defining his commitment to carrying on his mother's legacy. In addition to all that, Andre' was selected as student of the month from among his peers of 23,000 students.

Which helps somewhat to explains Ms. Bobb's tears. The letter was from the DePaul University, Dean of Commerce, Ray Whittington. The tears flowed, as she read from the letter:

Congratulation on achieving academic excellence! In recognition of your scholastic achievement in the College of Commerce at DePaul University, you will be honored and acknowledged at our Freshman/Sophomore Honors Convocation.

The top 5% of the freshman class and the top 10% of the sophomore class are invited to receive this recognition of scholastic achievement.

You see the letter placed Ms. Bobb on notice that perhaps her son's honor ball days were behind her, but Andre was still achieving. Ms. Bobb beams in telling about Andre achieving a 4.0 in an accelerated program during his first quarter. Just 16 years old,a young future Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. just might be in the making. Sounds like Ms. Bobb will have quite a few new ceremonies honoring her son's academic achievement.

She is so proud.

Enough to make any mother shed tears.

Fort Wayne Youth in a Culture of Violence

Fort Wayne Journal Gazette headline screams

Coroners Declares Oxford Death a Homicide:

Fifth of year in Allen County; all in Fort Wayne
The Journal Gazette
The Allen County coroner has released the name of the man killed Saturday night by gunshot wounds and declared the death a homicide.

Sheldon James Jefferson, 22, was one of two men in a car that crashed into a home in the 2900 block of Oxford Street Saturday night. His death is the fifth homicide in Allen County this year, all in Fort Wayne.

Police were called to the home at 9 p.m. Saturday and found two men in the car. Jefferson died at the scene, and the second man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

20-year-old injured in nearby shooting

A Fort Wayne man is in good condition at Marion General Hospital after being shot in the lower back early Sunday morning at a dance.

Terrence Glenn, 20, 2721 Stardale Drive, Fort Wayne, was shot at the Clarence Faulkner Community Center, 1221 W. 12th St., at 1:48 a.m. Sunday, Marion Police Department Capt. Jay Kay said
.

Was it a shot sounded around the world, because a few hours later:

Police said the incident is not related to a double homicide a few hours later at a motorcycle club on South Branson St.

Waiting for an headline to explain why youth dances with violence?

But its not just Fort Wayne youth who are acting up:

Teenagers brawled in the stands at a high school basketball game at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night, leading police to crack down on the melee, which spilled into the streets and subways.

Gunfire was heard as the crowd went from the arena to Times Square, police said. No injuries were reported.

Twenty-one people, mostly teenagers, were arrested, police said. Some were charged with disorderly conduct or resisting arrest and one person was arrested on charges of riot.

Fort Wayne Metro Pee Wee FootBall

Metro sports is about the youth or is it? Is that a Pepsi sign on the scoreboard? Does Metro get advertisement dollars for that? Metro does not like the taking it to the street vendors' self-initiative spirit supported by Kweku Akan and friends as reported in today's News-Sentinel. In the meantime here's some more pictures of football played by the youth.

The Pee Wee Lions beat Seminoles 20-6.

The ultimate winning team-brother and sister.

And that's the rest of the story.

Football Weekend

Metro Youth Sports Pee Wee Lions won another game, this time against the Spartans
The score Lions 20-Spartans 7.

Note:
I am not a sports fan, but I peek in from time to time to see what's going on. This is what I saw from this weekend's quick peek.

I am still disappointed in the way Indiana treated Edgerrin James , but looks like he found a new home with Arizona. Arizona Cardinals won 34, with James 3rd and 1 touchdown, to San Francisco 49ers 27. Peyton Mannings, Indianapolis Colt 26 pulled off a win against his brother Eli Mannings, New York Giants 21. My feeling is that Indianapolis is nursing Manning individual passing record instead of team that will win the Superbowl.

Go Tiger Woods, Go.and Metro Youth Lions

When you're hot..you're hot! Tiger Woods, the greastest golfer in the world has pulled off five back to back wins. I watched him hit a ball from behind a tree and out of a sand trap, and win a golf game.. won. But Tiger stated that building a center for children through his foundation gives him an even greater pleasure. You go, Tiger..

Tiger wasn't the the only one hot this labor day weekend: Metro Youth Sports Pee Wee Lions pulled off a 6 to 0 win over the Tigers.

First a little practice:
