Mark Souder loving the teabaggers that I call racialists

Of course I did not ask Indiana Congressmn Mark Souder about tea baggers or President Obama. But back in 2006 I did ask him about the so called gang activity in Fort Wayne and about all that dope money. Oh and I wanted to know why the Social Security Building was being taken out by the airport. So, Congressman is not responding to my questions but to get a dig in at his Democratic challenger Tom Hayhurt with an unsolicited email. So here's his email to me for you the readers, voters in Allen County:

It was Dear Ms. Dowdell:

This year, thousands of Americans marked April 15, Tax Day, by holding rallies to protest out of control government spending and tax increases. Rather than address these concerns, President Obama stated the next day at a fundraiser in Miami that he was "amused" by these rallies and could not understand why the protesters were not thanking him for all of the "tax cuts" he has signed into law. Unfortunately, the President's rhetoric does not match reality. In just over one year in office, his administration has placed a huge tax burden on Americans in every income bracket, including at least 14 different provisions that violate his campaign promise not to raise taxes on the middle class.

Since January 2009, despite my vocal opposition, President Obama and the Democratic majority have forced legislation through Congress that contain tax increases totaling more than $670 billion over the next 10 years--this equates to nearly $2100 for every man, woman, and child in the U.S. Some examples contained in the health care bill alone include a new tax on employers who do not comply with health insurance mandates, an excise tax on medical devices, a tax on name brand pharmaceuticals, an increased tobacco tax, and new tax on certain investment incomes. There are unfortunately dozens of others.

Rather than laughing off the public's outrage, the President and the Democratic leadership would help themselves and our country by addressing the issues. A good starting point would be to cut the out of control federal spending that led to the record $1.4 trillion deficit in 2009 alone. While it may be tough for the big spending Democrats to make budget cuts, we must follow the example of the thousands of Hoosiers who have been forced to cut back during tough economic times. I will continue to fight for legislation that encourages economic growth and ensures our nation's families and small businesses are not loaded with additional tax burdens.

Rest assured, I will continue to look for more ways to control and cut this mountain of debt without raising taxes. If I may be of assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me again. I also encourage you to visit my Web site, which may be found on-line at www.Souder.House.gov.

Seeking President Obama-Gun Rights Fight

Hopefully, Paul Helmke fan club show up for these folks marching on the Washington Monument.

Politics is Local--Fort Wayne in Allen County Election 2010

Tea baggers, heap baggers whatever you call them, are aiming to have an impact on who gets elected. So, I am not too surprised to see so many candidates on the election ticket for my fair city. Unemployment is the major factor in getting these tea baggers all steamed up. Another reason is because the voters went an elected an African-American President of these United States !! So, something tells me a little of this is being played out in Allen County.

These folks know that pulling the lever is not enough, you got to get in there(elected)to win it to truly get your voice heard on behalf of the little people( your special interest). Yep, a small cluste of folks working in agreement on keeping the resources in their neighborhoods. You probably heard it called something else..POLITICS. Why you think Al Sharpton (not local) is late to the party in taking a liking to President Barack Obama? Sharpton knows, his voice will not be heard badmouthing the brotha,( President Obama). So, Sharpton is playing the system and protraying himself (unlike Tavis Smiley) as President Obama's ally. So,it is with some of Allen County 2010 election candidates. Smiley and Sharpton were on the same team until Sharpton switched on Tavis.

Some of these folks are straight up playing the system. But, that's politics. The next time, some folks will have to stand up and be counted, by getting on that ballot and making a difference. And guess what some folks have done just that, (the non elite self selected by the party) :

Phil Marx is on the ticket, good for him. Marx and I have had some interesting conversation. I met Marx when he ran against Mark Souder as a Republican some years ago. Now, he is running against Stevenson as a Democrat for Wayne Township Trustee. This is a no-brainer. Either Marx is running to get some digs in at Stevenson or he couldn't run as Republican. I am just saying, no way can he beat Stevenson on the Democratic ticket. Unless, the Republicans are going to vote Democratic to oust Stevenson. This will be interesting.

Nina Gaines Newson.

Gaines ran in 2006 for Adams Township Assessor, and I still believe she won the race back than. So here she is four years later running for a board membership, no doubt she will win hands down. Gaines-Newson is gutsy and young, I would have loved to see her on the ballot for Assessor. But she may know something that I am no aware of about the position.

Maye Johnson

Johnson has served her time. Whomever has placed their name on the ballot will win this hands down. I don't care how many political allies you have but when you are working for grass root folks, you ought to do something for the people.

Rick Stevenson

Stevenson will win his reelection bid. Stevenson has earned his votes from the people. Stevenson has truly driven Wayne Township in the right direction. Meaning, it is a place in which those who are hurting should be able to go and find away back home. Sure, Stevenson could do more, but with the prior years of neglect, Stevenson was behind a learning curve and a bad budget.

Now for my disclaimer, I am neither a democrat or republican. However, the party system tends to suppose the two party system, so you are stuck with declaring a party affilation. The system is designed this way to maintain control by the minority, so few real folks can get on the ballot.

Do what you have to do, but at least click on Election 2010- Allen County to learn more about those candidates who will have an impact on your community, and you and your children future.

Fort Wayne Brandon Crawford Fights for NFL Draft PIck

The eruption of the volcano in Iceland may have international travelers uncertain about their next destination on a daily basis. But, not Brandon Crawford. Crawford is in Indianapolis, practicing for a chance to represent Fort Wayne as the oldest player ever selected for the National Football League. On August 16. 2010, turned 34 in the same year is betting on a draft from the NFL.

If Crawford, who turns 34 in August, is drafted, it’s believed he would be the oldest player taken since Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Chris Weinke, who was 28 years old when selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round of the 2001 draft.

Though Crawford, 6 feet 3 and 275 pounds, was not invited to the NFL combine, he trains at an Indianapolis workout facility and met with some teams before the combine in February.

This is the also the first time the NFL draft will be held in primetime starting on Thursday and finishing on Saturday. What took Crawford so long for debut could be viewed as just Life unpredictable winding road. For some the road can be undaunting, but the son of James and Marva Crawford continues to travel it with great confidence, courage, determination and inner strength.

Crawford's story is an American story, no matter the outcome, many will be pulling for him.

Crawford's also had a knack for military-like heroics. Last season he recovered a fumble at Miami University on Veteran's Day. In 2008, he blocked a potential game-winning field goal at Navy in the final game of regulation, propelling Ball State to a 34-31 overtime victory over the Midshipmen. He was also born in 1976 -- our nation's Bicentennial.

Crawford refuse to quit as he moves down that winding road.

Ashy Plume of Grits keeps President Obama Grounded

Air travel has been cancelled throughout the world to avoid the damage from the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull. . The spitting inferno sit below a glacier ice cap. Clouds of ashes and gritty debris are traveling miles into the sky. The magmum explosions particles can cause damage to the plane engine.

The Icelandic volcano that has kept much of Europe land-bound is far from finished spitting out its grit, and offered up new mini-eruptions Saturday that raise concerns about longer-term damage to world air travel and trade.

Many travelers are finding themselves unable to reach their travel destination because of the air restrictions.

The ash plume, which reaches several miles into the air, has been pushed southeast into Britain, Scandinavia, and into the European continent itself, hovering over the skies of western and central Europe and as far east as Ukraine. Twenty-six countries, including France, Britain, Italy, and Germany, have canceled flights, with several countries extending the ban through Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

The belching volcano eruption disrupted plans for United States President Barack Obama to attend Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife funeral.

The biggest flight canceled Saturday by the enormous ash cloud: Air Force One to Poland. President Obama, citing the thick volcanic spew over Europe, scrubbed plans to attend Sunday's Krakow funeral for Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife
The coupe were among 96 individuals killed on April 10 in a plane crash in western Russia

How long before air travel returns to normal is uncertain.

You Think There’s Nothing to Do in Fort Wayne?

Planning a trip to Fort Wayne, soon. Well the month of April has some highlights for you. This sounds interesting..drumming or dancing.

The Old Fort "Y" reborn as the Renaissance Pointe YMCA

The construction of the New Young Men Christian Associate (YMCA) is due to be completed by September 2010. The ground was broken for the new building replacing the central city Old Fort "Y".
New YMCA is a key anchor for the Renaissance Pointe area -As construction continues on the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne’s newest membership branch, excitement is also building for the $6.5-million Renaissance Pointe YMCA. The facility broke ground in September of 2009 and is schedule to open September of this year.

The YMCA is required by the national constitution to pay annual dues, to refrain from discrimination and to support the YMCA mission. All other decisions are local choices, including programs offered, staffing and style of operation.

The YMCA will meet the swimming needs of other communities. However, the fitness center should have been made much larger to support the fitness need of those who live closer to the Y community. Little insight was probably given for those living in the community in which this facility will sit.

Most children living in the area prefer to be active doing things outside, not inside swimming. But, it was not built with our children in mind now was the Choral room for them??? LOL

Just my opinion.

Volcano, Eyjafjallajokull

Iceland volcano, Eyjafjallajokull erupted on Wednesday, causing airspace to be restricted. This spectacular underwater volcanic eruption spewed volcanic ash all over Iceland.
The ash cloud, drifitng between 20,000 to 30,000 (6,000 -9,000 meters) feet high and visible from the ground, left tens of thousands of travelers stranded around the globe and blocked the main air flight path between the U.S. east coast and Europe.

Tea baggers by any other name: Puffed up Patriots

April 15 is Tax Day. There will be endless lines at the post offices for those who are trying to beat the deadline for filing. But, on this day, a new group will emerge disguised as Tea Party Tax Day Protests. Original tea party protesters wanted to send a message to the government.

Today, the new tea party groupies are aiming for the President. The Southern Poverty Law Center finally calls a spade a spade. In other words, these patriots are some evil little men and some women.

Don't get it twisted should sistas date outside their race ?

Does the question itself imply African-Americans women must seek permission on their selection? Is African-Americans women dating rituals determined by someone other than their own choices? Could this means African-American women are limited to arranged relationship based solely on race? Are we just a group of groupthinkers?

Aren't we some bad mamma jammers. We are loosed, unbounded biblically speaking or something like that. In other words secure in own skin to do whatever the h-e-to the double ll as we please.

Didn't Loving vs Virginia end the States deternining who could couple with whom back in the day? Didn't Brown vs the Board of Education free up Linda Brown to not only sit next to raced white folks but to date raced white folks? Haven't our brothas been given each other the high five, fist pump, a wink and a smile, pat on the back for mating with raced white blond women?

So, what is it about a sista dating or coupling with the other? Sista your dating behavior is being watched. The topic about interracial dating by sista in the blogosphere has been on fire. Now a sista Karyn Langhorne Folan has written a book “Don’t Bring Home a White Boy: And Other Notions That Keep Black Women From Dating Out". The Harvard educated sista is encouraging educated sistas to go west or go other than a brotha to end her dateless weekends, nights, or bed.

Educated sistas?? I'm guessing here, but was she implying that educated sistas are the only sistas whose opinion count in the world for sista behavior? I am just asking.

Emma Downs
feature writer for Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette asked my opinion about this encouraging sistas to go outside the race in her article, Couples hurdle race barrier:

Jacqui Dowdell, administrator of the local *blog dowdellresearch/social media (www.dowdellresearch.blogspot.com – formerly Fort Wayne African American Independent Woman) believes the idea of black women being taught not to date outside their race is outdated and often generalized by the media. *thanks for the mention I needed to correct the title of the blog

Books such as “Don’t Bring Home a White Boy: And Other Notions That Keep Black Women From Dating Out” are often one perspective on why many black women don’t date outside their race, she says.

“The media can only provide a snippet,” she says. “One book is not indicative of what is really going on. There is a whole world out there.”

Dowdell is currently visiting her daughter in Italy. In Europe, she sees a lot of black women dating non-black men. And in America, women in general are more confident about choosing their mates, she says.

“It’s an evolution,” she says. “Each generation redefines who they are. Females know now that we live in an integrated society and choosing a mate is not left up to the men. They judge a mate based on that person’s values.

“But it’s not like we are giving up on the brothers. We can go outside and plant flowers, but we don’t give up on the brothers.”
Yep, evlution not progress but discovery.

Sure I have my opinion. And don't let the flowers thing throw you, here's a post where I used or referred to flowers, it's just my get back to nature kick, I think.

Anyway, back to the interracial dating thing, it's only my opinion. The opinion that really count is the sistas and their mates who are making these decisions. Here is another opinion of mine, whom you are dating is a private matter. Yep, and when you go public with your choice it is others opinions (mom, dad, friends) that may cause harm to your relationship. I'm just saying, just ask my daughters, and my grandson who calls me a subliminal racist!! What could have gotten into his mind, but he is entitled to his opinion but he clearly does not understand what is racist!!!!

It is how you handle other opinions in developing your relationship. It's a take me or leave me, kick butt, or take no prisoners attitude. Whatever?!

Would I encourage a sista to date someone that is not a brotha? This is my rule, I am not in a relationship, so I am not the person to counsel you on your relationship. That's just the way it is. But, if you ask me my preference.. it's brothas, brothas, yep brothas and they just don't come from America. Check out my blog and I will freely give my opinion if you read :here, here, here or just about anything. LOL

So what say you?

Nike: Tiger Woods just teach them

Tiger Woods numerous sexual affairs were not mentioned in his new Nike ad. On the eve of the Augusta Gerogia United States Masters, some folks got their wish. Nike released an ad with just a head shot of Tiger clothed in the Nike's swoosh. Not a single word uttered by Tiger. But you hear the recorded voice from Tiger's dad.

The images left to the viewers, were the golfer and the Nike swoosh.

Billy Payton Augusta National Golf Club chairman had a lot to say during his Wednesday press conference about the golfing world fallen role model. But Nike muted the brutal tongue lashing of Payton, replacing them with the words of a father teaching his child mental toughness. Nike 1 Payton O.

I could not help but compare the Nike commercial to the recently released Erykah Badu Window Seat video hype. Badu stripped out of her clothes completely becomes naked evolving into a new place of conciousness. Only Badu's music played in the background giving us a sense of her state of mind, on her back the word evolving. Whereas Tiger remains clothed with only the Nike swoosh and his father speaking for him and neither against the golfer. Tiger has to do nothing but stand..not even the words just do it appearing at the end.

It is a given.

Tiger will do Tiger, And that will be teaching the world about the game of golf. And the legacy he leaves behind for his children will by far outweigh his sex scandals.

April: Confederate History Month

Eight United States Presidents called Virginia home. But, that was not the end of the southern way of life, enslaved Africans, African-Americans doing the work for free for those who imported them. There were other Presidents who were kin of some of the Southern Presidents who believed in Slavery. Too many years of slavery after the 1808 ban of Africans would backfire on the southern way of life By 1861, an American Civil War was declared and the battle would cut into slaveholding states' right to maintain a non-pay system consisting mainly of African-Americans.

President Abraham Lincoln was forced to use enslaved African-Americans to save union that would become the United States of America.

It was a battle in which slaves were declared free to battle their slave holders to save the Union by President Abraham Lincoln. Folks living in these states were not only shocked to see family member fighting family members. But African-Americans were allowed to legally kill raced white folks. Enslaved African-Americans were now armed and protected by the government to kill those who wanted to uphold the confederacy.

The Union was saved. But those debates about federal rights and state rights continues. Recently, one term Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell issued a proclamatin declaring April Confederate History Month. The Republican Governor suggested that the 150th anniversary next year would draw tourists back to Virginia. Meaning, these states' right advocates would be drawn to a State that celebrates Confederate History Month.

In his proclamation the Republican Governor leaves out any mention of slavery, in essence hinting that the Civil War was not about slavery. With this position, the Governor join many Civil War buffs who argue that million of southerns did not own slaves compared to the hundred of thousands who did own slaves.

The argument is weak.

The millions who did not enslave African-Americans still maintained the system of slavery. These millions had no problem living among the slaveholders who denied millions of African-Americans the right to live where they wanted, to marry, to vote and to work for a decent wage. In Virginia alone, there were over a half a million enslaved persons. These millions of Southerns wants us to believe that they had no problem with millions of African-Americans being set free.

History tells us different. There were so many African-Americans in their presence that an African-American was not counted as a whole person.

Governor Bob McDonnell is playing to the teabaggers, he is rally the troops under his one term. What McDonnell fail to understand is that African-Americans can now disagree with him and not wait for raced white Americans to correct him in his thinking.

Update: 04-08-2010: It seems Governor McDonnell has issued another proclamation embracing the nagging issue that stained the soul of the states and the nation. Yes, the Governor is referring to slavery as being a cause of the Civil War.

Is Small Business Administration liable for disparate impact against minority businesses?

Recently, Diamond Ventures,LLC a venture capital Atlanta based firm received a ruling from a Federal District Judge to go forward with their landmark lawsuit. The case was brought under the Equal Credit Opportunity Act ("ECOA"), Plaintiff, Diamond
Ventures, LLC (“Diamond”), claims that the Small Business Administration ("SBA") discriminated against it as a minority-owned company when it failed to license it as a Small Business Investment Company ("SBIC"). Earl Peek on June 30, 2003 filed pro se but amended the complaint in December 2003 to change the plaintiff to Diamond Ventures, LLC alleging bias practices in SBA selection process.

On March 29, 2010, Federal District Court Judge Glady Kessler, ruled against the SBA’s attempt to dismiss Diamond’s landmark lawsuit against the SBA, setting the stage for the agency to stand trial for discriminatory practices in its Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) program. The Judge found credible testimony and reports that the program had:

* only .86% (two persons) of the 350 licensed managers in the program who were African-American managers;
* that SBA’s own statistics show black owned firms received just 2.55% of SBA approved financing;
* that .49% of all SBA dollars were to black owned firms illustrating that SBA’s policies for decades have had a disparate discriminatory impact on blacks and minorities.

The Court in denying SBA summary judgment request found genuine issues of material fact exist with regard to Plaintiff’s disparate impact claim and that Plaintiff has offered sufficient evidence from which a reasonable jury could conclude that Defendant is liable for disparate impact discrimination on the basis of race.

Unemployment trend: not turning the corner African-Americans

The Bureau of Labor Statistics data reveals that the private sector has created 162,000 jobs. President Barack Obama calls it turning the corner maintaining a 9.7 % national unemployment rate.

But my stomach hurts. African-Americans employment when compared to other groups is far from turning the corner. African-Americans overall unemployment rate is 16.9%. For African-American adult males the number of unemployed climb toward almost 20% while the number for African-American adult females is slightly above 12%.

While raced white females unemployment as a group steps up to the corner at 7.3%, and raced white males at 8.8%, both groups escapes the unemployment national high of 9.7%. So what about our children?

With 741,,000 African-American children in America between the age of 16-19, almost half are unemployment. 41% of these African-American children fall short compared to over 4 millions raced white children coming in at less than 24% unemployment. So my stomach hurt. Because it ain't us who are working in America and it is our children who are standing on the corner while others are turning the corner.

What kind of crap is that!

Fort Wayne unemployment upward trend

The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership member Mark Becker. Becker, former Deputy Mayor of the City of Fort Wayne is the executive director of the Northeast Indiana Foundation a component of the multi-counties partnership suggest in the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette that the downward trend of unemployment in Indiana is not so bad.
“In a region that has such a high dependence on manufacturing, we came through the year relatively well,” said Mark Becker, executive director of the Northeast Indiana Foundation, a part of the regional partnership.

It seems a surge of hiring came at the end of the year to outset jobs losses in 2009 that still outpaced 2008. This comes from a study commissioned by the group, conduct by the Community Research Insitute at Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne conducted by another former City of Fort Wayner staffer, John Stafford.

The [“Targeted Industry and Manufacturing Business Dynamics Report 2009] noted that twice as many businesses closed in 2009 as in 2008. In 2009, 42companies closed, which involved the loss of 3,686 jobs. In 2008, 21 closed with 1,928 jobs lost. The job cuts that the report termed “downsizings” caused the loss of 1,722 jobs in 23 reported events – about a 40 percent increase over 2008, when 18 downsizings cost 1,206 jobs.
, as reported by Bob Caylor.

According to the United Bureau of Labor Statistics Data, in 2008 Fort Wayne unemployment rank was 5.8%. By the end of 2009, the preliminary unemployment rank had almost doubled to 10.1%. Gary, Indiana a ghost town of manufacturing jobs, unemployment rank in 2008 was only .8% less and in 2009 outpaced Fort Wayne by a mire .7%.

Fort Wayne is not producing jobs to maintain its community. For example, checking out the numbers in the manufacturing area gives us some indication of our production level. The number of folks in the thousands working in Fort Wayne manufacturing industy, the hope of Indiana, went from 35.7 to 30.3 and is continuing its downward trend at 29.7 as of February, 2010, according to the BLS.

Just tell me how we the community can turn this unemployment trend around?

Indiana: I GET IT

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report list Puerto Rico, Michigan and Nevada having the highest unemployment rate during the month of February. These states found themselves in the double digit, 16%, 14% and 13%. This may have given Indiana a moment to give a sigh of relief coming in under 10%.

Indiana weighed in at 9.8 % just above the national average of 9.7%. However, in some counties in Indiana, such as Allen County, unemployment rates have surpassed the U.S. average at 11%. Temporary workers for the United States Census Bureau may have reduced the number of unemployed in the area is one reason suggested as to why Allen County numbers are not higher.

But that's not the only bad news for Indiana unemployed workers. Indiana is borrowing money to provide unemployment benefits to its Hoosiers. It was just seven years ago, that Indiana had $1.4 Billion dollars in its trust for unemployment. But, it is all gone. This means the State of Indiana unemployment reserve was depleted in 2008.

However, Indiana DWD has received received a $6 million grant from the US Department of Labor to provide green job training.
The grant will fund "Indiana's Green Energy Technology Instruction and Training" (I
GET IT). The statewide program will provide skills training and on-the-job experience in the green energy sector to over 2,100 dislocated autoworkers, unemployed Hoosiers, out-of-school youth, and adults with barriers to employment. Additionally, the program will establish an Advanced Energy Training Center to facilitate the state's transition to a green economy. Details about the training programs and application process will be announced this spring.
Allen county is eligible for the training for those counties impacted by automotive restructing.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development partnered in this grant proposal with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), Ivy Tech Community College, Southeastern Indiana Small Business Development Center and the American StructurePoint, Inc.

The DOL has released more grant money to communities to get workers back to work. $1.8 million in funding is available to Women in Apprenticeship and Non-traditional Occupations.

Eligible applicants include community-based organizations that form a consortium with at least one Registered Apprenticeship program sponsor in targeted industries. Organizations must demonstrate their experience in either directly providing or securing job training services, and providing placement and support services to women. Registered Apprenticeship programs will be responsible for placing women in employment through apprenticeship programs in the targeted industries.

Fort Wayne unwittingly appears to be headed in the direction of Detroit or Gary, Indiana. So what does that means for those African-Americans living in the core of the city of Fort Wayne?

If the unemployment rate is at 11% for the city, more than likely the unemployment rank for African-Americans is probably at least 33%. This is even worse news for young AFrican-Americans living in the city.

We must start a non-profit for creating empployment for our young folks, because our folks are not looking out for their future. I GET IT but does our African-American leadership get it?
